Band Camp 2025

Dates:

  • August 5th-8th- Percussion Camp- 9:00-3:00

  • August 7th- Seniors/Leadership- 9:00-12:00

  • August 8th- Pre-Camp for Woodwind Brass- 8:30-12:30

  • August 11th-15th- Full Band Camp- 8:30-5:00 (pickup starting 5:15)

This date was published exactly 365 days in advance. Please plan your doctor appointments, vacations, etc. around camp. While other schools practice after school 2 to 3 times a week we do not out of respect for your time and our athletic program. While other schools have 2, 3 even 4 weeks of band camp in the summer we do not. We respect the summer vacation, family time, travel opportunities, and educational opportunities our students partake in during their summer breaks. As a result, we have 1 full week of band camp as close to teacher workdays as is allowed. We have the latest, shortest, and easiest of band camps of any school in North Carolina. We run the country club of band camps. Appreciate it. As a result, it is our expectation that attendance for the very minimal 5 full days of camp be 100%. To do otherwise, forces all students to have to repeat information and drill moves when your child comes back after missing. That is not fair to anyone. Allow the directors, the students, and the band to maximize the short amount of time we have together by having your child where they are supposed to be.

Drop Off and Pickup:

The front of AHS looks like the place you should go and in past year because we used the auditorium it was where we did drop off. However, the auditorium is not finished and camp will be mostly in the arts building so the back entrance off of Victoria Rd. is the best place.

Athletic Practice?

Do not stress. If you have a practice or game.. GO TO THAT! We have you in class but your coaches do not. Therefore, their practices come 1st. The only thing we ask if you let us know which teams you are on so we can take note of it. Remind your coaches of this policy. There should be almost zero conflicts ever with any athletic event as a result. This is why there are so many athletes in the AHS Band!

Reminders:

  • Dress- It’s summer! Dress like it. No hoodies, coats, sweaters, etc. are needed. Even in Asheville, August is a warm month.

  • Shoes- Tennis Shoes are the only acceptable footwear for camp. Doc Martins, Birkenstocks, Chacos, etc. are dangerous to march in and can lead to issues. If fashion is a concern for you, feel free to change AFTER marching is done at lunch time.

  • Water Bottle- Invest in a refillable water bottle to be taken to the field and with you around camp. Hydration is important.

  • Sunscreen- Please remember to bring sunscreen and use it daily. Even with it is cloudy or cool, the sun can be dangerous!

  • Cougar Step Up- 9th Graders- On Wednesday after lunch all Freshman will participate in the Cougar Step Up where you will take a tour of campus and do extra freshman activities. You will return to band camp when that is completed.

Food:

  • Lunch- Monday-Thursday- Pack a Lunch for these days. No one is allowed to leave to get food once you are at school. The only food option on campus besides a packed lunch is Bridge and Tunnel at AB Tech next to the football field. However, this is not always open each day.

  • Lunch Friday- This is a celebratory meal provided by AHSBA through band fees. This will be a big buffet, but feel free to bring special desserts or extras for your sections if you choose. There will also be a signup for parents who want to donate desserts, fruit etc.

  • Kona Ice- Visits band camp each year. They will come one of the 5 days at lunch and be set up. Bring some cash if you want to partake.
