The band program at Asheville High School is the oldest continuing band program in North Carolina and has a long history of excellence. Beginning in the fall of 1924, the band program has been a strong presence in the school community in Asheville City Schools. From Asheville High to Lee Edwards and Stephens-Lee the program in Asheville City Schools has produced outstanding concert and marching bands for decades at the high school level. The AHS Band has performed at “Concert Festival” (now MPA) since 1926, with the Wind Symphony receiving over 52 Superior Ratings in Grade VI. The AHS Band has performed for 4 US Presidents (Roosevelt, Nixon, Ford, and Obama) and most recently marched in President Obama’s 2nd Inaugural Parade in Washington DC in 2012. The band has also performed at concert festivals across the Southeast, been a featured ensemble performing at the NCMEA Conference, at Pearl Harbor for the 75th anniversary commemoration, and most recently at the National Band and Orchestra festival at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Whether it be on the football field on Friday nights or the concert stage, the Asheville High Bands represent the best of Asheville City Schools and the City of Asheville.
